Wednesday, May 09, 2007 Control.I lack. You know the times where you take a back seat and evaluate your life? I did just that. And I hate what I'm looking at. I think my life needs a face-lift. This isn't the way it's suppose to be. I'm happy for the new things making their way here but I also see some parts of me falling apart. I really hope I can make it through this semester. If there one thing about me that I don't like, it is the fact that I'm inconsistently unorganised. Every once in awhile I slip and there goes my life, whirling about in a freaking huge vortex. And if you know how vortex's are, you know they suck you right in and it's extremely hard to get out. But I also know that I'm not completely unorganised. Because I remember many moments when I was in-charge and the results were mighty fine. So yeah, gotta take back the reins. Yee-haw. I also read this article recently about how Malaysians are extremely racist and unaccepting towards Black Africans. As much as I loathe the idea of racism, I must say that I understand where all this hatred and animosity towards one's skin colour is coming from. People are afraid. And they have every reason to be. And as much as I hate to say this, stereotyping is the only way for us to be safe. Because we can't trust no one. And God forbid if they're of a different skin colour. And it's sad really. Because with such mindset, we'll always be imprisoned by our own fear. And my dear country, you stand for peace and unity among races. I know it's not your fault because I know that in your eyes we are all equal, we're all your children. But just like children we fight and call out names. We form cliques and are short-sighted. Why are people so afraid to break down those walls after 50 or more years of living with one another? Is there any need to be defensive, when we all call this piece of land home. For 50 years, we've been all living like hypocrites. We're so alike, we don't even know. Must we all go under the knife to finally understand that we're all the same inside? Must it come to that? Will we ever win this losing battle?
Comments:
you are absolutely right about the steroetyping/selective discrimination part... for years I have been trying to convince people that racism, to a certain extent, is unavoidable because psychologically we are animals of reasoning and our mind works in a categorical manner to aid us with uncertainty... here is my favourite quote on racism

In order to get beyond racism, we must first take account of race. There is no other way. And in order to treat some persons equally, we must treat them differently. |
