| ....It's The Lil' Things That Make Life Sweet.... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Thursday, August 09, 2007 Super Daddy!!I feel extremely loved today because my Papa bought me a cup of coconut jelly from the pasar malam. You see, the thing is I never realised how much I've taken all these little gestures for granted. Every thursday, he'll get me something from the pasar malam near my house and I'll just take them for him and gobble them up like the greedy person I am. But today....today was special. Because I've been sick for awhile now and I have been eating plain and tasteless food for the past 4 days. So I was lying in bed watching the 3rd season of Grey's Anatomy and suddenly my tastebuds were screaming for something sweet. I craved for something creamy, something milky, something savoury and all I have to do is just stick my head into the fridge and look for the nearest choco bar or a cream puff or that Banana Cream Cake from La Manila (yes, my family stocks up a lot on sweet unhealthy but wonderfully delicious food) but I couldn't because I had to walk to the fridge and Grey's Anatomy is on dammit! Oh, and plus diary products aren't good if you have a lot of icky phelgm. It was then when my Papa showed up and handed me a cup of coconut jelly. I was so surprised and delighted and I felt like a luckiest girl on earth. My papa reads my mind! Hurray! x) In the past, I've always felt a little disappointed that my relationship with my dad wasn't like what it used to be when I was little. There are no more cuddles and kisses, no more doting on me like he used to but then I finally accepted that maybe he didn't know what to do with his little girl who well, ain't so little anymore. But I know he does dote on me in his own way now. Just in a subtle way. And I get it. I really do. He has always been a great father. He was the father who made up bedtime stories for me. He was the father who taped our conversations on a cassette because he thought I had the most adorable squeaky voice. He was the father who told me that I shouldn't be afraid of ghosts because Jesus is there to protect me. He was the one who bought me loads of nursery rhymes cassettes and taught me how to sing them (which he and my mom got so sick of and later exposed me to what resulted in my vast knowledge of the golden oldies). He was the one who spoils me and my brother when we were little by secretly buying us toys without telling my mom. And he still spoils us. Just more subtle now. He may be a lot more grumpier and he may sometimes be a little overbearing, but he's still the man that bought me coconut jelly when I wanted it the most. And I didn't ask. x) I'm a happy little girl. x)

Yeah... sometimes we as children just can't seem to identify our parent's care and love in simple and small ways... all we want sometimes is big things from them, but in reality, the things that mattered most are the small lil things that they do for us, each and every day...
